Current Events:
Each February the museum honors Black history with a display of local interest.
This past year, the museum focused on four of the oldest Black churches in Silsbee;
The First Baptist Missionary Church, New Bethel Baptist Church, St. John's Baptist Church,
and St. Beulah's Baptist Church. Above is a photograph of the Reverend Mose Johns
who served as one of the first Black ministers in Silsbee. He tended the flock at the
First Baptist Missionary, New Bethel and St. John's Baptist Churches.
The museum reserves March for PVAC's ARTFEST. The Performing and Visual Arts Council in Silsbee
provides art programming to the schools by contracting a variety of artists who present performances,
exhibitions and demonstrations. Artfest allows the students an opportunity to produce and ehxibit
their own work. Parents and grandparents are always pleased to come through the museum to see the
creative imaginations of their children.
The museum provides an ongoing variety of classes for children and adults.
Above is a photograph of "Klay for Kids" with instructor Rhonda Rodman. Many thanks to the
Art Studio for their help and cooperation.
Below is a photograph of Paula Houchin's One Stroke Painting Class.
Kids and adults enjoy the annual Christmas in the Big Thicket's Library Festival held
each year on the first Saturday in December. The museum offers the "Make It and Take It"
craft fair. At no cost, visitors can make a Christmas card or decoration and take it home.
